Chile: Kiwiphage technology will help in production and export of kiwi's

The Institute of Biology of Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV) celebrates the final phase of its most recent project: Kiwiphage. The technology aims to increase the production and export of the fruit in Chile, which was down during 2022. Kiwiphage, whose name refers to the fruit it benefits from, is designed to protect kiwis from bacteriophages, a virus that affects farming and food production.

PUCV Vice Chancellor for Research, Creation and Innovation Ximena Besoaín applauded the achievement because “the kiwi hectare has been greatly reduced in the country due to this disease” and said that, thanks to the contribution of the company, Kiwiphage Development, times were more efficient for quicker market release.
