Limoré Brand of the Rocca Imperiale Lemon Growers' Cooperative

Rebound for Rocca Imperiale lemons with orders up 35% in just a few weeks

After a bumpy start, mainly due to a combination of adverse socio-economic factors, the Limoré lemon brand has started showing signs of recovery again. The Cooperativa di Produttori di Limoni associati di Rocca Imperiale (Rocca Imperiale Lemon Growers' Cooperative), a young Calabrian company that promotes lemon produced under the Protected Geographical Indication brand, spoke on the current market situation.

"In the span of just a few weeks, we've recorded a 35 percent growth in demand, in the wake of a very static January and early February due to the slowdown in consumption. While the demand from foreign customers has always been prominent, it is now also rising from Italy. This is a long-awaited commercial upturn, given that the end of our lemon campaign is about 3 months away."

Pietro Buongiorno, president of the Cooperative of Associated Lemon Producers of Rocca Imperiale

Limoré fruits are showing average calibers of II and III, a juice yield of more than 40 percent and a limonene content of 75 percent. "Sales prices have also bounced back upward and are now remaining steady between €1.60 and €1.80/kg. For the month of March, we expect a gradual opening of the markets. The large-scale retail trade is where we sell 95 percent of our product. There are four chains we supply in Italy at the moment, and two in each country abroad. Among the main destinations, Switzerland, France, Germany, Belgium and Eastern countries."

In addition to the 5- and 9-kilogram Premium Line packages, which are gaining positive feedback in Europe, the cooperative will soon launch a new, practical 2- and 4-fruit package.
