The development of the farms of the Victoria de Girón Agroindustrial Enterprise, located in the Cuban province of Matanzas, should strengthen the economy of the territory and the country.
With a total of 143 cultivation facilities, the entity’s productions are inserted within the economic strategies designed by the province by allocating part of its products for the consumption of the tourist sector and exports. The entity located in the municipality of Jagüey Grande has 15 hectares where vegetables are grown, including tomatoes, peppers, blueberries, hot peppers, eggplant, cabbage, cucumber, melon and watermelon.
Yadir Valdés, the director of the company’s crop house business unit, explained that foods such as habanero peppers and blueberries are destined for export with favorable results in previous years, but the aim is to achieve better yields in 2023. Globally, hot peppers are in great demand, so the timely collection, selection and proper storage allows obtaining a quality product, while the blueberry is also gradually being inserted into the market in order to generate income for the island’s economy, he said.
