The first batch of 2022-2023 Chilean cherries landed in China by air

On October 30, this year's Chilean cherries landed at Shanghai Airport. There will be an opening ceremony in Jiaxing Haiguangxing Market, which means the 2022-2023 production season will kick off. It is understood that the newly arrived Chilean cherries are mainly from Giddings Cerasus and ForeverFreshAsia, all of which are early-ripening varieties: Royal Dawn, BROOKS, and Glen Red.

At the opening ceremony, the crowd gathered with enthusiasm. After all, Chilean cherries are one of the most popular fruit items in China. Regarding the situation of the first batch of fruits and the prospects of this season, FreshPlaza had communications with Mr. Wang, an import and export trader.

"In terms of prices, there are many uncertain factors related to the pandemic now, and it is difficult to predict the market trend. For example, the Jiangnan fruit market and some other major fruit markets in Zhengzhou, Linyi, Chengdu, Xinjiang and other places are under lockdown, which makes it impossible for merchants to start shipments and sales to these areas. The initial price of the first batch of Chilean cherries last year was around 1,500 RMB (10kg), and this year's price should be similar to last year, or even lower." said Wang.

According to the shipping schedule, Chilean cherries will be shipped on December 9, and the schedule will last until mid-February. The first-batch varieties include Royal Dawn, Santina, Lapins, Sweet heart, and Regina.

This year, it is estimated that the arrival volume of Chilean cherries will be about 18% higher than last year, reaching about 20,000 containers. Among them, the output of Bing will decrease, and the ratio of SJ and PJ will be about 25% higher than last year.

Wang said, "The price of the first batch of fruit this season is not high, which is not a bad thing. Taking into account the increase in production and the fact that the early arrival of the upcoming spring will lead that a considerable number of cherries cannot be in the market before the Spring festival, the most important thing for this year's market is to run smoothly. If the price at the beginning of the season is too high if it leads to poor sales later in the market. Overall, I think the market outlook for Chilean cherries this year is not very optimistic. "
