Gannan early ripening navel oranges entered the harvest period in mid-October. It is understood that the climate this year is conducive to the growth of early oranges, the quality is good, and the market is buoyant. At present, the purchase price at the origin is about 8RMB/kg, while the wholesale price of high-quality fruit is 16RMB/kg. The picking period for early ripening navel oranges will last until the end of October.
At present, early-ripening navel oranges are planted in the whole city of Ganzhou, and the main producing areas are located in Yudu, Xinfeng, Ningdu and Shicheng counties. Since this early-ripening navel orange is a new variety developed in recent years, the current planting area is small and the output is limited. According to the statistics of the Ganzhou Fruit Industry Development Center, this year, the planting area of this variety in Ganzhou is 2000 hectares, and the estimated output is 30,000 tons, with an output value of about 120 million RMB.
It is understood that the "Gannan early ripening navel orange" was selected and bred by Gannan Normal University and Yudu Fruit Tea Bureau from 2005 to 2014. It is the first navel orange variety with independent intellectual property rights in Gannan, and it is also the earliest navel orange variety in China at present, which can mature from the end of September to the first ten days of October.
"The quality of early ripening navel oranges this year is the best so far. It ripens early, has a delicate taste, and has a sugar content of 15 to 16 degrees." Wang Ti, a navel orange buyer from Anyuan County, Ganzhou City, said that the purchase price at the origin is 8RMB/kg, and the wholesale market price is 13.6-15RMB.
"The market sales are very good, and the production can't keep up." The fruits purchased by Wang are mainly sold to Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Guangzhou. Wang expects the market for this fruit to be optimistic over the next 5 to 10 years, and could fetch 2 to 4 times higher than the price of Newhall navel oranges.
Xie Xiuting, the senior agronomist of Ganzhou Citrus Research Institute, said that, compared with Newhall navel oranges, Gannan early ripening navel oranges can ripen 20 to 30 days earlier. They are a very rare early-season navel orange in China. The market prospect is great, and the price can be 4RMB/kg higher than that of conventional navel oranges. "Affected by this year's climate, Gannan early ripening navel oranges matured earlier, and their sweetness is higher than during the same period in previous years."
