Multiple factors led to reduction in volumes of Luochuan apples by 30% - 40% this season

In Luochuan County, Shaanxi, which is the main apple-producing area in China, seven natural conditions, such as high altitude, a thick soil layer, the large temperature difference between day and night, long sunshine time, moderate rainfall, and long frost-free periods, have contributed to the accumulation of sugar in apples produced locally. Apples there are more crisp, sweet and juicy, with a thin skin and no residue after chewing.

"We have a purely organic planting base of late-maturing red Fuji in Luochuan covering an area of more than 100 hectares. This year's production season has just kicked off, and it is expected that it will be available until May next year. It is currently a busy season for fruit picking and the apples are fresh and juicy. Our pure organically grown apples in the transition are planted by the fruit farmers led by Zhongguoshuoguowang in strict accordance with the standardization of organic agriculture under our unified supervision.” Ms. Zhang Liping from Luochuan Old Fruit Farmers Apple Professional Cooperative recently shared the progress of the Luochuan apple production area with Freshplaza.

This year, extreme climatic variables, such as drought and rain, have occurred frequently across the country, and fruit production in many producing areas has been affected to a certain extent. The Luochuan producing area is one of them," Zhang said. "This season, the overall production of Luochuan apples has decreased by about 30% to 40%."

When talking about the reasons for the reduction in production, she explained, "In addition to the unsatisfactory flowering caused by weather factors, the other main reason is that the economic benefits of planting apples in the past few years were poor. The old planting methods made the quality not as good as before. As a result, the soil acidity and alkalinity are serious, the quality of apples declines, the taste becomes worse, the roots of fruit trees age and die, and the profit margin for apple planting is getting smaller and smaller, and many fruit farmers decided to cut down trees because they lost confidence in the market.”

Faced with this situation, Lin Jianfeng, the founder of Zhongguoshuoguowang, started from the development direction of the national organic ecological agriculture and considered the health and safety of consumers. He led farmers to use organic sheep manure from the source of the Inner Mongolia Golden Grassland Organic Meat Breeding Base, and turn it into bio-organic fertilizer through the Bayannaoer Hengli Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd. to create better, more healthy and safe Luochuan fine apples.

In terms of price, so far, the overall price of Luochuan apples is slightly higher than in the same period in previous years.

"Although the output has decreased a lot, the planting costs such as agricultural materials have also increased, which has led to a limited increase in prices. Although the cost of planting apples with pure organic fertilizer is very high, in order to allow every user to eat the healthy, safe and delicious Luochuan "Luoyuan Old Fruit Farmer's Apple", we have rapidly promoted and we are still selling at regular prices," Ms. Zhang Liping said.

At this stage, the apples of Luochuan Old Fruit Farmers Apple Professional Cooperative are mainly sold to the domestic market through agents (including one-piece delivery), unit procurement and other channels. Also, the company is actively looking for overseas docking resources, hoping to sell their apples to any overseas regions where there is demand.
