Cameroon needs wholesale markets

Macfrut 2023 was presented in Cameroon and, more precisely, in  Yaoundé at the residence of the Italian ambassador in front of eighty operators including businesses, associations and stakeholders. Ice-Agenzia regional manager Elisabetta Merlino, Lab Innova project representative Giuseppe Pedata and the head of the commerce section for the EU delegation Filippo Amato also attended.

"We are very pleased to have presented Macfrut 2023. Some of those who attended illustrated their positive experience at Macfrut 2022. Cameroon needs to renew its production and Macfrut is the right place to find ideas and contacts. I believe many more operators from Cameroon will attend the next edition," explains Renzo Piraccini, president of Cesena Fiera.

Fifteen local companies attended the 2022 edition with excellent results, so much so that more will probably attend the edition that will be held next year on May 3rd-5th at Rimini Expo Center. Cameroon needs to re-launch its fresh produce for the purposes of its domestic production and exports, which mainly concern bananas and pineapples.

In a big retail chain

Distribution occurs both via the big retail chain (Carrefour and Casinò are the leading names) and local markets.

Street vendors

"There is a huge difference between the two channels. In big retail chains, quality is not bad and prices are high, while quality is rather bad in the local markets and prices are very low. Health and hygiene in the markets is rather lacking. Wholesale markets in Africa could represent a platform between production and retail."
