Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment

Afghanistan: Imports from Pakistan down 50% in past year

According to the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment, in the last year Afghanistan imported less than 1  billion dollars worth of goods from Pakistan, down more than half from previous year. Afghan business has decreased not only with Pakistan, but with other countries as well. A member of the board of directors of this chamber said the reduced purchasing power of Afghans, an increase in domestic production, and banking restrictions in Pakistan are the main reasons.

Khan Jan Alokozai, senior vice-chairman of the ACCI:  “Approximately, it decreased to 1 billion, it means our imports from Pakistan decreased fifty-five per cent.”

According to official statistics of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Afghanistan exports to Pakistan have reached more than 1.3 billion dollars and are expected to increase again.
