Imported fruits in peak season had a “cold shock”, and boutique products fill the high-end market

In August, the transaction volume and value of imported fruits declined to a certain extent. In terms of varieties, pitaya fruit, fine prunes and durian are the top three in terms of transaction volume in the main fruit wholesale market. In addition, the trading situation of mangosteen and longan among Southeast Asian fruits is not satisfactory.

However, some products, such as South African oranges, New Zealand apples, New Zealand kiwis and other fruits, are in a concentrated launching period at this time, and the overall transaction is still relatively optimistic. In addition, among the imported fruits in August, the trading volume of jackfruit increased year-on-year, and Thai pomelo and young coconut were also outstanding.

Analysis of the reasons: On the one hand, it is the impact of the pandemic. At present, the pandemic continues to spread, air and sea transport capacity is insufficient, and prices are rising, many importers choose to purchase less or even stop. On the other hand, fewer imported fruits also reflect the changing consumption concepts which are more mature. In recent years, imported fruit has been on the market continuously, and the public has become accustomed to it and no longer chasing after it. Because consumption is more rational, while pursuing high quality and branding, the choice of fruit tends to be more towards taste and quality.

In addition, the rise of domestic high-quality fruits is accelerating to fill the high-end market where imported fruits were thriving. With the improvement of the quality and brand of domestic fruits, more and more domestic boutique fruits will emerge in the high-end fruit market.

In the next period of time, the temperature will gradually turn cooler, the fruit will enter the harvest season, and the fruit trade will also usher in a new round of upsurges with the coming of the festivals. The dominant fruits in the market, such as pears and new apples, will be launched one after another, and pomegranates, pomelo, and winter jujube will also enter the stage of bumper harvest, enriching the entire fruit market. Besides, the strong market for cantaloupe and watermelon will gradually weaken as the weather changes.
