China stops trucks carrying goods for Dashain festival from entering Nepal

Containers full of fruits and other items that are being imported to Nepal for the Dashain festival have been stopped in the Tibet region by Chinese authorities. Nepali businesses are facing the brunt of barring of entry of goods by the Chinese authorities. Chairperson of Sindhupalchowk Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Raj Kumar Basnet said that as a result of these restrictions, many fruit shipments have started decaying.

The ban on entry is attributed by the Chinese government to the ongoing lockdown in Tibet in view of the new Covid outbreak. Reasoning to this the Chinese government has ordered to stop the goods-carrying vehicles entering Lhasa from the China mainland for the time being.

Chairperson Basnet shared that more than 200 containers were stopped at Keyrong and around 100 containers at Khasa. Chief of Tatopani Dry Port Custom Office, Narad Gautam, also mentioned that the import of goods was prohibited, as per Khabar Hub.
