Germany's REWE Group is taking the next step in digitising its marketing approach by offering customer flyers and pamphlets via WhatsApp. The move follows on from the retailer's pledge to discontinue the use of printed flyers by summer 2023.

UK: Asda opens 50th ‘Asda On the Move’ convenience store
Asda marked the opening of its 50th roadside convenience store in Derby on 7th September. The Asda On The Move store is located on the Pride Park retail estate in Derby and will be the first Asda convenience site in the area. Supermarket chain Carrefour will sell Spanish consumers a basket of 30 basic goods for 30 euros, the company said, days after Spain announced it was considering asking big retailers to offer special price packages to mitigate inflation.
UK: Aldi remains top of supermarket price ranking
Research by consumer group Which? shows Aldi remains the UK’s cheapest supermarket amid the growing cost-of-living crisis. In its monthly price comparison, Which? looked at the cost of a basket of 49 items, including groceries and household essentials. Aldi came in cheapest at £76.24, which was £20.30 less than Morrisons and £12.24 less than Tesco. It edged out key rival Lidl by £1.66.

Trinidad-based supermarket association targets Caricom partners for food security plan
The newly formed, Trinidad-based Caribbean Supermarket Association (CSA) is working towards teaming up with private sector organisations in Caricom - from Belize to Suriname - to discuss ways to reduce the region's food import bill and promote food security. Its the goal of the interim board led by Rajiv Diptee, who is also the president of the Supermarket Association of TT (SATT).
US: Target announces leadership updates
Target Corporation announced that Brian Cornell has committed to remain as CEO and lead the company for approximately three more years. Additionally, the company announced Arthur Valdez, executive vice president and chief supply chain and logistics officer, will retire from Target. He will be succeeded by Gretchen McCarthy, senior vice president, global inventory management, effective immediately.

US: Misfits Market to acquire Imperfect Foods
