"This year we'll send 24% of our exports to the US market"

Peru has 51,000 hectares devoted to the cultivation of Hass avocado

Peru has nearly 51,000 hectares devoted to the cultivation of Hass avocado, distributed among approximately 8,000 producers. It is Europe's leading Hass avocado supplier and the second biggest supplier of this variety in the world.

"These rankings give us an idea of the weight Peru has as a producer of this fruit and why we must take actions that allow us to offer high-quality products that meet the demands of international consumers," stated the general manager of the Association of Hass Avocado Producers of Peru (ProHass), Arturo Medina.

Europe has always been the main destination for Peruvian avocado. This year the percentage of the volume exported to that continent has remained stable while shipments to the United States have registered the most significant increase. "This year we'll send 24% of our exports to that market," the executive stated.

Chile has also become a very interesting destination for Peruvian Hass avocado. Peru will be one of Chile's main avocado suppliers in 2022, Medina stated.

The manager of ProHass said that, in recent years, exports of Hass avocado have been stable. "Last year our export volume increased by 31% and this year it will grow by nearly 9%," he said.

"95% of the avocado consumed in the world is of the Hass variety"
"There's no doubt that the consumption of Hass avocado has registered a significant increase in recent years, not only in terms of exports but also in the domestic market, due to its nutritional quality, as this fruit provides vitamins and minerals recommended for health care," stated the general manager of the Association of Hass Avocado Producers of Peru (ProHass), Arturo Medina. "In fact, 95% of the avocado that is marketed in the world is of this variety. In recent years, consumption has grown by an average of 12%," he stated.

In this context, the ProHass Association presented the ‘Everything is better with the Hass avocado’ campaign during the 'Hass Avocado Week', with the aim of continuing to promote the consumption of this fruit in Peru.
