Two people were detained in Alicante for forcing a dozen immigrants to peel onions for more than 16 hours a day

As part of an investigation carried out by agents of the Unit Against Illegal Immigration Networks and Documentary Falsehoods of the Provincial Brigade of Aliens and Borders of Alicante, authorities have arrested two managers of a company in Callosa del Segura dedicated to the collection and distribution of vegetables for allegedly exploiting sixteen migrants, nine of them in an irregular situation, who were forced to clean and peel onions for more than 16 hours a day.

The National Police stated on Friday that the two people arrested employed workers of foreign origin from six in the morning to ten at night, without any rest, and paid them five cents for the kilo of onions cleaned.

Both detainees are charged with offenses against workers' rights, the facilitation of illegal immigration, and labor trafficking.
