Recently, mainland China has banned the import of hundreds of agricultural products from Taiwan. Pomelo, sometimes known as wendan, a specialty product of Yunlin, is also on the list. Xie Shuya, deputy head of Yunlin County, said there is a planting area of about 247 hectares of Wendan in Yulin, mostly concentrated in Douliu, with an area of about 196 hectares, Gukeng about 25 hectares. The annual output of Wendan reaches 5,000 tons. It is the best seasonal fruit for the Mid-Autumn Festival. It is also the best representative of good products from Yunlin.
Wei Shengde, director of the Agriculture Department in Yunlin, explained that 90% of Taiwan's Wendan were exported to mainland China in the past. After the ban, they could only try to develop other markets. The county government has cooperated with Yijiewei Agricultural Products Co., Ltd. to promote local agricultural special products to foreign markets, and cooperated with foreign supermarket channels. A total of 130 tons of fruits and vegetables have been secured for export. About 290 boxes and 640 gift boxes with a total weight of about 5.4 tons of Wendan will be exported to Singapore.
