Return to average avocado crop for Israel's 2022-2023 season expected

A return to an average avocado crop for the coming 2022-2023 Israel harvest season, due to start in August, is expected after a record crop last year for Granot Fresh, the biggest Israeli avocado producer.

According to Yonatan Meron, Export Manager of Granot Fresh: “We harvested a record of 50 000 tons of avocados last season. This coming season we're estimating the crop to be 20%-30% lower than last season. It will be a return to an average crop.”

Granot packs avocados in their modern automated pack house that operates 11 months a year. “We plan to begin harvesting in August again with green skin avocados. By mid-October our Hass season will start and we'll continue harvesting until the end of March. We are very happy to have reached a record export season of 50 000 tons last season. Everything was done via our state-of-the-art packhouse. We exported 30 000 tons mainly to Europe. Russia is also a big market for us, we send a lot of avocados to them. Our exports activity there were badly hurt by the war, but it remains a very important market for us for the upcoming season. We have very good relationships with our Russian clients, and we plan to continue working together with them throughout the challenges. We have the trust of our clients and we will find the right way for everything,” says Meron.

Granot is the biggest agriculture cooperative in Israel that belongs to 43 Kibbutzim, making them one of the biggest packers and exporters of avocado and citrus in Israel. “We grow 3,200 hectares of avocados and we have 70 years of experience doing that. As an export company, owned by growers we remain close to needs and values of the owners. We are the growers, and we give our owners the full value chain of growing, packing, marketing and exporting their products. We have an office in Netherlands too. They take care of all the sales in Europe. It is our own people sitting there who are in touch directly with our clients,” stated Meron.
