David Levin, Zohara Farm:

“Israeli figs must not only be seen, but tasted”

Demand is strong across all markets for Israel’s figs in the United Kingdom, Europe, Canada as well as Asia. The Brown Turkey variety of figs is currently being air freighted from Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion International Airport to all these countries.

According to David Levin, the CEO and marketing director of Zohara Farms, demand is strong across all these markets. “We must airfreight the product to arrive fresh and tasteful. Our figs summer exports will run until mid-August. We export to the UK, Europe and some to Canada as well as the Far East, Singapore in particular. I will not mention the prices but can say that the demand is strong across all these markets. It is all sent via airfreight. Israel’s airfreight prices are relatively reasonable and with good availability.”

Zohara Farm sources the figs from several producers who are based in the center of Israel. They harvest twice a year, in winter and now they are busy with the summer harvest. “At the moment we only have figs of the Brown Turkey variety. We prepack the figs or pack them in 1 kg boxes or punnets. Our Israeli figs must not only be seen, they must be tasted to appreciate the quality,” says a confident Levin.
