Date brand wins “Best Dates” in Good Housekeeping snack awards

Natural Delights’ Sweet and Salty Almond Mini Medjools were named “Best Dates” in this year’s Good Housekeeping Healthy Snack Awards. This is the brand’s second major media award for Mini Medjools which launched last fall and has continued to gain popularity with shoppers looking for nutritious, wholesome snacks.

The Good Housekeeping Nutrition Lab results called the product “a wholesome snack option that stood out to our judges for its fiber and potassium.” The lab added that “the naturally sweet option was a hit with testers of all ages, who described it as ‘flavorsome and totally innovative.’”

The Good Housekeeping team’s process for choosing winning snack items consisted of registered dietitians and culinary professionals in the Good Housekeeping Institute Nutrition Lab pouring over nutrition facts, ingredient lists and flavor profiles of hundreds of snacks. Nearly 2,000 taste testers helped evaluate over 5,300 samples to choose the winners, which had to meet the following criteria:

  • Made with real, recognizable ingredients
  • Prioritize fiber-filled and protein-rich sources
  • Free from trans fat and partially hydrogenated oils
  • 300 calories or less per serving
  • 10 g of added sugar or less per serving
  • 300 mg sodium or less per serving

“Mini Medjools impressed us with their high-quality ingredients and delicious flavor profiles,” said Stefani Sassos, MS, RDN, CDN, deputy director of the Nutrition Lab. “The premium quality of the dates is what really stood out to our judges, making for a light and satisfying snack at any time of day.”

“It’s extremely encouraging to receive another award for Mini Medjools, which we anticipated would be positively received by shoppers and nutrition experts alike,” added David Baxter, director of marketing for Natural Delights. “This recognition of quality, flavor and health benefits fuels our continued effort to innovate using Medjool dates as a key ingredient for wholesome snacking.”

To take advantage of the growing notoriety surrounding Mini Medjools, the brand recommends that retailers prominently showcase them in a display bin in the produce section or on an endcap with other healthy snacks. Retail displays can be ordered on the Trade Resources page on the website.
