Russia resumes import

Pinghe honey pomelos arrive on the Chinese market in late July

Honey pomelo production areas in Fujian recently enjoyed regular weather conditions. The season proceeds as usual. Manager Wen, spokesperson for specialized honey pomelo exporter Pinghe Lipeng Fruit Industry Co., Ltd., recently talked about conditions in the honey pomelo market.

According to manager Wen: "Production areas recently enjoyed abundant rainfall. Precipitation levels were higher than in recent years, which is beneficial for the development of honey pomelo. The product quality is quite regular now. The first honey pomelo harvest activities will take place in late July and early August. However, the honey pomelo price dropped in recent years, and so a number of honey pomelo farmers shifted to different crops. That is why the overall production volume is smaller this year.

"The overall surface area devoted to white pomelo declined compared to last year, and so the production volume will shrink as well. The overall surface area devoted to red pomelo plantation may not have declined at all, so the production volume is more or less the same."

When asked about predictions for future market trends, manager Wen replied: "The European Union remains our main export market this season. In addition, Russia has resumed import of Chinese honey pomelo. There are many opportunities, but also risks in that market."

"The main uncertainty in the export market is still the high cost of shipping. Last year the cost price of export consisted for a significant part of shipping fees. The cost of shipping pushes the product price up, which makes visiting traders hesitant to buy. We hope that this year the price of shipping will come down enough to stimulate export," said manager Wen.

"In addition to the high cost of shipping, we also have a limited production volume this year, which makes it difficult to secure a sufficient supply volume of high quality honey pomelo for all our clients. The import standards in the European Union are particularly strict, which complicates export to that market when the production volume is relatively small."

When asked about the strengths of the Lipeng Fruit Industry, manager Wen replied: "We have our own processing factory, which is one of our main advantages in this industry. We can package our honey pomelo in the way our clients want. In addition, our fresh-keeping facilities help extend our sales season. When the supply volume in the honey pomelo market is dwindling, we can still provide our overseas clients with high-quality honey pomelo."

The Pinghe County Lipeng Fruit Industry owns a honey pomelo orchard in Pinghe, one of the main honey pomelo production areas in China. This orchard measures 120 hectares. The honey pomelo of Lipeng Fruit Industry are all GAP certified.

"We always work hard to guarantee the highest product quality. We maintain strict quality standards for orchard management, harvest, storage, selection, and packing."
