Belize: Agriculture Minister wades in on 'rotting carrots' issue

Recently, there has been much debate in Belize on whether carrots are rotting in fields in San Carlos Village or not. Jose Abelardo Mai, Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise, said the following on the question: “As far as I know, as far as the Ministry knows, there were no carrots rotting in the field and I think the media went out there and did their verification themselves. If that was happening I would have been the first to know because the farmers would call me, they would call me.”

A release from the Ministry of Agriculture states there is no massive oversupply of carrots, only a shift in supply from the rest of the country to San Carlos and Concepcion.
