Buonanno has been providing Spanish figs to its customers for the past 15 years. The season was just launched at the beginning of June and will run for about 8 weeks. This campaign is starting well: "Currently, prices are good due to the low quantity available and the high demand. We are also very satisfied with the quality. Fruits have a good sugar content this year", reports Lucas Soria, sales representative for the company.
On the French market, Buonanno's professionals have noticed a significant increase in fig consumption in recent years. "This fruit remains a gourmet fruit often used to sweeten salty dishes or cheeses. Figs can also be eaten dried to extend their durability. But there is still a long way to go before the fig becomes as popular among the French as it is already in Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, and England. Production-wise, France is the third-largest producer of figs, after Greece, Italy, and Spain.
Although the company offers figs to its customers, it specializes primarily in ratatouille vegetables (eggplant, peppers, zucchini), which are exported to Europe: "We sell 80% of our products to the French market and 20% to other countries in the European Union or the Schengen area, such as Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Buonanno also offers lettuce and broccoli throughout the year.
