Cambodia: Growers hope to export longan to China

A group of farmers in Pailin province reached a deal to export longan fruits directly to China; the first shipment is expected in August. Say Sophat, Director of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in Pailin said the fruits grown at the Good Practice Agriculture (GAP) farms are eligible for export. About 30 percent of 7,000 hectares of longan fruit plantations in the province are GAP certified farms, he said.

The fruits will be exported to China directly after they are sanitized in the heating facility. Currently there is only one, which is co-owned by Chinese and local investors.
