The Murcian investment firm Bluestone Food and Tech Investments, dedicated to promoting agricultural innovation projects, has joined the Alicante-based company Uvasdoce. Bluestone is a company owned by Alvaro Muñoz Beraza, who, together with his brother Antonio, owns the Murcian fruit giant AM Fresh Group, the third-largest national exporter in the sector, which is also carrying out an important commitment to innovation.
The alliance between the two companies was introduced this week in the Mercantile Registry, with the entry of Muñoz Beraza himself and two Bluestone companies as directors, although the agreement was closed a month ago after two years of meetings, according to nearby sources.
Bluestone enters as an investor and advisor, although the management of the company will remain in the hands of its founders and its current management team. According to the sources, the idea is to test new varieties in Uvasdoce crops and select the ones that best respond to release them to the market.
After the entry of Bluestone into its capital, Uvasdoce has abandoned the formula of having joint administrators, which up until now were Alfredo and Maria Dolores Miralles, to form a board of directors in which the founding family maintains half of the members and its presidency (in the person of Alfredo Miralles), and that allows the entry of new investors.
Last March, AM Fresh Group acquired the American company IFG, one of the main grape hybridizers in the world, to merge it with its own varietal innovation firm, Special New Fruit Licencing (SNFL Group). As a result, the second and third most important hybridizers in the world have joined under the umbrella of AM Fresh.
