The Tudela artichoke harvest is expected to decrease by 30%

Even though the final results are still not out, the forecasts for the production of the PGI artichokes of Tudela are already confirmed, and especially in the plots that were cultivated earlier. According to estimates, the production of this vegetable will decrease by 30%, equivalent to 450,000 fewer kilos. This figure, however, could improve in the last days of this campaign, which will officially finish at the end of May, and, fortunately, that will improve the PGI's data for April, when the decrease over the previous campaign was estimated at around 50%.

In this campaign, 85 farmers produced Tudela artichoke with a registered area of 637.80 hectares distributed over 487 plots. 6 operators have marketed fresh Artichoke of Tudela: Agricola San Blas de Ribaforada (Ribaforada), AN S. Coop. (Tudela), Frutas y Hortalizas de Fontellas (Fontellas), SAT Agorreta 721-NA (Fontellas), SAT Nº 562 NA Frutas y Verduras Castel-Ruiz (Tudela), and SAT NA 728 Yesfresh (Buñuel).

11 companies marketed canned artichoke: Anko (Cadreita), Conservas Artesanas Rosara (Andosilla), Conservas Gilvemar (Mendavia), Conservas Oses (Sesma), Conservas Pedro Luis (Lodosa), Deliconservas Medrano (Tudela), Endine (Mendavia), Jose Salcedo Soria (San Adrian), MCA Spain (Mendavia), Riberega S. Coop. (Castejón), and Viuda de Cayo Sainz (Mendavia). The canning campaign will end in early June and, according to forecasts, the sector will can 1,200,000 kilos, just like last year.
