France: wholesaler Jacob gains strength by acquiring Primeurs de Saint-Malo

The French company Jacob in Paimpol (22) has recently acquired Primeurs de Saint-Malo, a branch of the fresh produce wholesaler Ame Haslé, based in Melesse (35) and Paimpol (22). The exporter and shipper of fruit and vegetables confirms its desire to develop its fruit and vegetable offer.

Based in Paimpol (Côtes-d’Armor) and Melesse (Ille-et-Vilaine), Primeurs de Saint-Malo has changed hands. With its 10 employees, this branch of the Breton wholesaler Ame Haslé, managed by France Ame, has been bought by the company Jacob, which is based at the packing site of Paimpol.

As the main exporter and shipper of fruit and vegetables in Brittany, the company was bought earlier this year by Laurent Rio, former manager of Bio Armor in Plaintel, via his investment fund Caroual Finances. Jacob confirms its desire to consolidate and diversify its offer. “Primeurs de Saint-Malo is a recognized player in the fresh fruit and vegetable shipping sector in France,” explains Florent Doussal, general director of Jacob (25 employees). This acquisition will help us strengthen our entire range of products, including our cabbage and potatoes, with French and European retailers.”

Founded in 1996, Primeurs de Saint-Malo sells more than 50,000 tons of fruit and vegetables per year, nearly 50% of which is exported. The company relies especially on the richness and diversity of its offer, thanks to its strategic position at the heart of Brittany and Normandy, as well as its partnerships in southwestern France.

Like Jacob, Primeurs de Saint-Malo is a member of Prince de Bretagne, the collective brand of Breton producers. “This acquisition reinforces a carefully thought-out business strategy,” explains Florent Doussal. “We want to structure a group on a human scale that is sustainable and respectful of the men and women who contribute to the development of the fruit and vegetable sector in Brittany and in France.”
