Brazil: Grape harvest in Bento Gonçalves saw high quality yields

The grape harvest in Bento Gonçalves and region is approaching its end. In the next few weeks the vines should no longer display bunches of grapes, as the harvest is in the final stretch. The severe drought that hit the south of Brazil punished the production of the fruit. The earliest varieties, which were harvested in early January, were the most impacted. Already those that are removed from the vines in March could, later on, have a recovery if it rains.

According to the president of the Union of Rural Workers of Bento Gonçalves and the region, Cedenir Postal, the crop had several problems at the beginning, but the evaluation of the quality of the fruit is surprising since the grapes harvested in 2022 are of good grade.

“The grape harvest is approaching its end. We had a lot of problems at the beginning. There in January, when the drought was punishing a lot in some places, a little more or others a little less, but the quality made up for it, very good graduation of the grapes too. The losses were very diverse."
