US: Aldi pushes ahead with U.S. expansion
Aldi aims to add about 150 new U.S. stores in 2022, including continued expansion in the Gulf Coast region will bring the deep discount grocer into its 38th state. Batavia, Illinois-based Aldi U.S. said that it plans to open a store in Lafayette, Louisiana, on February 10, marking the chain’s 1st location in Louisiana. That will be followed by 2 more Gulf Coast stores in early March and another 20 locations across the region by the end of the year.

Independent retailers lead the way as UK organic sales power through the £3bln mark
Sales of organic food broke through the £3bln barrier in 2021, with independent retailers at the forefront of the increase with 9% growth for their sector. The Soil Association’s annual organic market report reveals that growth overall was slightly more modest at 5.2%, meaning nearly £60mln a week is now spent on organic food and drink in the UK. Studenac becomes Croatia's largest grocer following Pemo acquisition
Studenac d.o.o. has become Croatia's largest retailer by store count, following its acquisition of Pemo, a Dubrovnik-based operator. The acquisition, the value of which was not disclosed, adds close to 40 stores to Studenac's operation, bringing the retailer's total number of stores to close to 750. The acquisition has already received the necessary regulatory approvals, the retailer said.
