BIOrigen opened new facilities to meet the national and international demand for organic tropical fruits

Andalusia's organic tropical fruit sector is growing

The outbreak of the pandemic has caused important collective changes that transcend the field of social relations or mobility. Shopping habits no longer follow traditional patterns and many of the markets' future trends have been accelerated in the last two years. These trends include the increase in the consumption of raw materials and organic foods, as well as minimalist purchases among consumers.

"Driven by the surge in demand for organic cut products and by the new commercial profiles, the organic firm BIOrigen has just undertaken an expansion and modernization of its facilities. With this expansion, the company will have a more efficient maturing space, a new area with calibration technology adapted to the current market circumstances, and a logistics perimeter that will house sustainable packing solutions where the fruit will be prepared for final markets. All of this is in line with the company's environmental viability policy, its commitment to continue carrying out actions to decrease its carbon footprint and to continue standing out for its orientation towards specialization in the production and marketing of organic tropical fruit in the Andalusian subtropics," company sources stated.

The new facilities are distributed around 3,000 square meters located next to the existing facilities.

This intervention in facilities also coincides with an increase in the flow of the commercialization of raw materials, as is the case of kumquat, pitaya or, more recently and in a more singular commitment, organic aloe vera, a product with tremendous potential given its remarkable healthy characteristics and that is starting to be more demanded by the European market.

The producer and marketer from Velez is also immersed in the national avocado campaign, which is going at a good pace and with the appreciated Hass variety gaining weight in the market. In general terms, BIOrigen is meeting the expectations it had at the beginning of the season in terms of qualities and varieties. The product, originating in the subtropical Malaga, is well received thanks to its flavor, aroma, and textures, they added.
