Third largest fruit exporter in the country, Ceará sells US$ 178 million in 2021

The state of Ceará ended the year 2021 exporting more than US$ 178 million in fruit. The result places the state as the third main outlet for these products, behind only Pernambuco (US$ 244 million) and Bahia (US$ 191 million). In terms of volume, sales to the  foreign market  through Ceará reached 138.700 tons. The expectation for 2022 is for continued growth and it is even expected an increase of 3 to 5% in new job vacancies in the sector.

The biggest fruit exporters in 2021:

  • Pernambuco US$ 244 million
  • Bahia US$ 191 million
  • Ceará US$ 178 million
  • Rio Grande do Norte US$ 167 million
  • São Paulo US$ 160 million
  • Rio Grande do Sul US$ 79 million
  • For US$ 49 million
  • Santa Catarina US$ 34 million
  • Espírito Santo US$ 31 million
  • Paraná US$ 18 million

In national numbers, there was a 20% growth in the exported value compared to 2020, reaching the mark of US$ 1.06 billion. The figure refers to 1.2 million tons shipped to the international market, up 18%.

The most important fruit exports are:

  • Mango US$ 248 million (272,500 tons)
  • Melon US$ 165 million (257,900 tons)
  • Grape US$ 156 million (76,600 tons)
  • Lemon US$ 123 million (145,000 tons)
  • Fruit preserves and preparations US$ 96 million (54,500 tons)
  • Apple US$ 73.8 million (99,000 tons)
  • Watermelon US$ 52.7 million (118,000 tons)
  • Papaya US$ 50.7 million (50,200 tons)
  • Banana US$ 37 million (108,700 tons)
  • Other fruits US$ 21.6 million (9,200 tons)
