“Regenuary”: the new movement encouraging local and seasonal consumption

Coming straight from the United Kingdom, the new “regenuary” movement consists in consuming local and seasonal products, avoiding imported foods and choosing for productions that follow the principles of regenerative agriculture, all of this for the entire month of January.

It is a response to the “veganuary” movement which promotes a diet without animal products during the month of January.

The “regenuary” movement was launched in 2019 by a group of British farmers. The movement is relayed on social networks with the hashtag #regenuary, which encourages buying, for the whole month of January, from producers who respect the principles of regenerative agriculture.

Although not very well known yet in France, the movement could gain momentum. Since the pandemic, several surveys have shown changes in consumption among French consumers, with an increasingly pronounced trend towards responsible consumption. According to the last barometer published by Max Havelaar and conducted in collaboration with Opinion Way in November 2021, “the sales of responsible food products is resisting and even progressing despite the crisis! 90% of the French are buying this type of products at least once a month and 66% at least once a week.”
