Alain Alarcón, Banagrumes:

"We want to revive the consumption of white pomelos in France!"

While red grapefruits (Ruby Red) are the most popular on the French market, Banagrumes has taken up the challenge to revive the consumption of white grapefruits (white marsh).

“We were asked by IMG, a French company that has been producing grapefruits in Florida for two generations, to revive the consumption of white grapefruits in France. These grapefruits used to be the most consumed on the French market some 50 years ago, but their popularity subsequently decreased. It is an excellent grapefruit and we believe it can reconquer the French market, so we accepted the challenge.”

In order to make this citrus fruit known, Banagrumes will organize an event on January 27th and 28th on the company’s sales floor. “The producers themselves will come for this occasion to present their grapefruit production in Florida to our clients and prospects. Of course, it will be a great opportunity to taste it and learn more about this fruit of exceptional quality that has become a niche product in favor of its red counterpart.”

The white grapefruits will be available until March/April, sold in exclusivity under the brand “Imagine”, created for the occasion. “We started the campaign gradually and we will increase our volumes as we go along. Besides the white grapefruits, we also offer Ruby Red grapefruits from Florida under the brand ‘Sensation’, from the same IMG producer. We are also very pleased with the quality. Florida grapefruits, in my opinion, were, are and should always remain the best grapefruits in the world. Yes, they are more expensive but the price reflects the quality of the fruit.”
