China: Exports of Korean grapes and strawberries to Hong Kong increase

According to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Livestock and Food of Korea, the total export value of local agricultural and fishery products in 2021 will exceed 10 billion US dollars (about 78 billion Hong Kong dollars) for the first time. Kyoho grapes and strawberries, which have been loved by Hong Kong people in recent years, also exceeded US$103 million for the first time.

Hong Kong imports a large number of Kyoho grapes and strawberries every year, of which Japan is the main source, and more Korean varieties have also been added in recent years. According to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Livestock and Food of Korea, the export performance of these two kinds of fruits is satisfactory. The export value of strawberries and grapes reached US$64.5 million and totaled US$131 million (approximately HK$1.02 billion), surpassing the 100 million mark for the first time. Relevant information shows that the export of strawberries increased by about 20% compared with 2020, and the export of grapes increased by about 24%.

It is understood that the above two fruits are recognized by the local government as one of the "best-seller products" for export. The local government provides comprehensive support to local fruit growers and exports to the United States and many Asian markets, including mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. In Hong Kong, there are many varieties of strawberries such as Jinsi and Meixiang, and there are also Muscat grapes and Kyoho grapes produced in South Korea.
