Herold Hage, N&K:

"We've received our first boatload of South African lychees"

N&K is the French Kinobé group's import office in the Netherlands. It received its first boatload of South African lychees yesterday. "These are following up nicely on the supply from Madagascar. They're arriving on a good, stable market," says Herold Hage.

The lychees are cultivated in Malelane in the Mpumalanga province and Tzaneen (Limpopo). These two towns are the largest lychee production areas in South Africa. "They're packaged under our brand. We offer them in sizes Large, XL, and XXL. This year's lychees are of perfect quality. Productions are good, and the fruit's nice and large and good to eat. Logistics is currently the main challenge. But that applies to all fruit from South Africa."

N&K sells these lychees to European retailers and wholesalers. "There's an especially high demand for them early in the year. Their availability is now also at its highest. There aren't an overwhelming number of South African lychees suppliers. So, it's a nice item with which to differentiate ourselves. The season runs from this week until the end of February. We import several containers a week," concludes Herold.
