Lots of Asian consumers are familiar with pineapples from the Philippines and Taiwan, but many of them do not know that Indonesia also exports a huge volume of pineapples each year. Frozen Fruits is an Indonesian pineapple grower and exporter. The company is looking for more exporting opportunities in the Asian market.
Stevan Budi is the managing director at Frozen Fruits. “In Indonesia, we have only two seasons, the dry season and the rainy season. Pineapples can grow in both seasons and we can harvest them everyday in good quality. There are abundant volumes of pineapple in Indonesia, therefore we do not sell in the domestic market, but only export to overseas markets. “
Frozen Fruits has 7,834 hectares of pineapple production field in Indonesia. At the moment, China and the US are the company’s main export markets. “This year many global fruit traders are facing multiple challenges, including the Covid-19 pandemic and limitations on global shipping capacity, which is why sales are slow in some markets. The shipping fees are high, and we need to share the burden of this extra cost with the customer.” Stevan said, “Because we work with fixed sales channels, the macro environment did not have a big impact on our export volumes. At the moment, the FOB price of a box of pineapples (10kg) is around $ 11.84. This price is around 10% higher compared with the previous season.”
The headquarter of Frozen Fruits is in UD Citra Tama Jaya in Indonesia. Besides fresh pineapples, the company also exports frozen pineapples, and fresh mangosteen.
