The new season of the Limone di Rocca Imperiale under the Limoré brand has started ten days earlier, thanks to the abundant autumn rain and the significant temperature difference at night in recent weeks.
"We started the harvest over the second weekend of December. The first batches will be available on 14 December for Italian and foreign retail stores," said Pietro Buongiorno, president of the Calabrian cooperative Produttori di Limoni Associati di Rocca Imperiale.
2021/22 lemon season
"Despite the 20% reduction in yields, the volumes we are going to market this year are close to those of the previous season thanks to the entry into production of new plants (+30 hectares). Fruits are of excellent quality both in terms of aesthetics and organoleptic qualities, with a limonene content as high as 75% and a juice content exceeding 40%".
"More and more European retailers, from France to Romania, are deciding to add the Rocca Imperiale lemon to their shelves. It is the only Italian crop that has received PGI label recognition. Thanks to the collaboration with the Piedmontese growers' organization Joinfruit, we can guarantee delivery from December to June, with different types of packaging. This is also why many chains choose us."
"After reaching the United Arab Emirates market during the last campaign, we have new destinations in the pipeline this year, such as some states in Oceania. In addition to the 2 and 4 piece fruit packs, we are launching the new 1.5 kg pack with handle in the coming weeks. An easy to transport package, designed for those who can no longer live without Limoré."
"Despite the fact that we are at the beginning of the harvest, the demand for Limoré is very high. Prices range from €1.60 to €1.80 per kg, which is a 25% increase compared to the same period last year. We are aware that there is still much to do, but we are very satisfied with what we have done so far in such a short time. We have succeeded in establishing a brand and in providing commercial value to the Limone di Rocca Imperiale PGI, a product which until a few years ago was marketed under other names, due to the complete lack of structures and the disaggregation of farmers."
