Antoine Guyot, Del Monte:

“Clementine sales should be more dynamic this week”

“Two weeks ago, we received our first shipments of clementines without leaves from Spain, and we started marketing the clementines with leaves at the end of last week,” explains Antoine Guyot of Del Monte France.

Despite the volumes available and the very satisfactory quality early in the season already, sales have been particularly difficult. “November is always a very complicated month for sales, for most fruits and vegetables. With Black Friday, the consumption of fresh products often takes second place. We really do have some very nice merchandise, balanced in taste, visually attractive and with nice calibers, all of this in sufficient quantity. In other words, we have everything we need to be satisfied but consumption is clearly low, which leads to an imbalance between the offer and the demand. Prices are low, which is the case for many other references, except perhaps for certain niche products.”

In spite of the complicated start of the campaign, Antoine remains positive and hopes that sales will pick up again in December. “The end of the month did not help to boost sales. But in December, with the arrival of Christmas, we hope that consumption will increase. According to some experts, sales should pick up and prices should go up from this week already.”
