Spain accounted for 31% of EU intra-community fruit and vegetable trade in 2020 with 12.3 million tons

The EU Member States traded 40.3 million tons of fresh fruits and vegetables among each other in 2020.

According to data from the EU Statistical Office, Eurostat, processed by Fepex, Spain was the Member State that exported the most fruit and vegetables to the rest of the EU countries, accounting for 31% of the total, with 12.3 million tons. It was followed by the Netherlands with 9.4 million tons, i.e. 23% of the total.

France ranked third with 3.8 million tons, accounting for 10% of the total. It was followed by Belgium with 3.7 million tons (9%).

Germany and Italy exported 2.83 and 2.89 million tons of fresh fruits and vegetables to the EU, respectively, each accounting for 7% of the total.

Other prominent EU fruit and vegetable producers were Greece, which sold 1.2 million tons, and Poland, with 1.1 million tons.

According to Fepex, Eurostat statistics, which also include data from the United Kingdom, show the importance that Spain has for the EU as the leading supplier of fresh fruit and vegetables and the hegemony of the Community market for the Spanish sector, as it is the destination for 93% -94% of its exports.
