First Peruvian ginger has arrived at Fruvexco B.V.

Just in time for the start of the winter season, Fruvexco B.V. has received its first container with fresh Peruvian ginger.

Tygho Kampschöer from Fruvexco said that it’s a wonderful new step for them; “We are very happy with the quality upon arrival and also customers’ responses are quite positive. Usually at this time of the year, we are very busy with our Chinese ginger supplies, with little room for ginger from other origins. However, due to the absurdly high prices for reefer containers from China, we were facing a lower supply of Chinese ginger and whatever is still coming in, has a very high cost per kg. Also, this season has had its challenges with respect to the quality and shelf life of the Chinese ginger. It has been an interesting period so far due to severe weather circumstances during growth and harvesting.”

Tygho explains that this caused several customers to request ginger from other origins.

“To continue to serve our customers, we have started to work more with our Brazilian ginger suppliers. Some customers were demanding specifically for ginger of Peruvian origin, so we decided to start working this year with direct imports from Peru as well.”

Peruvian ginger has a very good gingerol content and a distinctive flavour. Customers are happy with its taste and internal quality. This year, the crop of Peruvian ginger is wonderful. The skin has set nicely, there’s virtually no sprouting to be found and we haven’t seen any fungus issues so far. For us, it’s a very good addition to our product range”.

“Of course, there are always customers who prefer ginger from China or from Brazil; those clients we will continue to serve as best we can. But Peruvian ginger is a fine alternative from now on,” concludes Tygho.
