Weuthen market info week 42:

'Quiet demand for German table potatoes shapes domestic market'

The domestic market is characterized by a quiet demand for German table potatoes. For seasonal reasons, there has so far been a considerable supply surplus, especially of medium qualities. Quotations in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia are mostly stable, a potato trading house Weuthen reported in its latest situation report.

"We expect export opportunities in the coming weeks for coarse-falling goods. Our high-yielding varieties are also excellent for export, because coarser-falling ware is desired there. We are regular buyers of Drillingen up to 40 mm and have a regular need for selection offcuts," it continues.

For the 2022 crop, the company expects notable contract price increases and very attractive contract prices, depending on delivery time and variety. In addition, an expansion of cultivation in the traditional early regions, Rhineland, Palatinate, Baden and eastern Lower Saxony is being planned for the 2022 early potato season.

Growers with storage capacity wanted
"In central Germany, we are looking for growers with storage and preferably irrigation facilities for our high-yielding fast-food varieties next year and with further growth potential for the future," it continues.
