Potato market report week 42:

'Autumn holidays made for a quiet market'

Market activity for ware potatoes was mostly quiet. The autumn vacations in the city states as well as in NRW contributed to this. The sometimes abundant availability did not always harmonize with the accommodation possibilities, says the BLE market update.

Provided the supply was not too great, dealers were able to avoid concessions. In some places, however, they couldn't avoid lowering their previous demands to keep inventory from swelling too much. In Munich, supraregional supplies from southwestern Germany were also offered at noticeably lower prices.

Rhineland-Palatinate: sales situation moderately satisfactory
The sales situation on the potato market remains only moderately satisfactory despite ongoing cellar offers. Sales promotions with large containers are only bringing a slight short-term boost. In the meantime, there has been a slight increase in supraregional purchases. Consumer prices for full-range products are stable in part at a high level (up to €1.50/kg). Producer prices are unchanged, reports Landwirtschaftskammer Rheinland-Pfalz.

Hesse: Unchanged quiet demand
The State Agricultural Office of Hesse reports that grubbing operations are progressing well. An unchanged quiet demand continues in the current week. The autumn vacations in Hesse were used for many consumers to travel. As a result, cellarage operations are currently providing little relief to the market. Quality and storage stability of some lots are critically evaluated. Prices remain unchanged from the previous week. The situation is expected to remain stable.

Lower Saxony: No change compared to the previous week

According to the basis (grading 35 - 65, less than 8% defects, light and firm-skinned goods, loose, free entry per 100 kg), the following prices were paid last week, as reported by the Lower Saxony Farmers' Association:

Depending on the quality, surcharges or discounts are still possible.
Please note the following market information: No change from the previous week.
