The Musa AA bananas on the market are the second crop of this season. The current price is around 0.80 RMB per kg. Compared with the same period in previous years, the price has been reduced by more than 70%.
"The first batch of Hainan Musa AA Banana of this season entered into the market in March. The price at that moment exceeded 2 RMB per kg. Later, as the number of bananas increased, the overall price began to decline gradually, until it reached 0.60 RMB per kg in May. Similar to the sales of the first batch, the prices of the second batch of Musa AA Bananas that have been on the market since September have continued to run at a low level, and some farmers even had to sell them at a loss." Ms. Li Yun from Chengmai County Nanfu Banana Co., Ltd. said in an interview with FreshPlaza.
Ms. Li Yun said, “The main reason for the poor sales this year is that the total output has increased significantly compared with previous years, and most of them are too concentrated on the market. In addition, the Hainan production area has recently encountered continuous rainfall, which has led to the poor quality of bananas. Besides, the appearance of these bananas is not ideal, and they are more difficult to store and keep."
In addition, in previous years, many fruit stalls in the street markets sold Musa AA Bananas. This year, affected by various control measures related to the epidemic, the number of these stalls has been greatly reduced, and there are not as many consumers out shopping as before. This is bound to cause a decrease in sales of these bananas to a certain extent.
