"We want to improve the cultivation of Cantaloupe melons where the whole chain is 100% produced in Italy," said Alfredo Amoroso and Andrea Restuccia about the Best Melon project of the seed company Med Hermes.

These are high-quality crops, premium products. Unfortunately, there are also melons on the market that are not from the EU and therefore do not meet the strict requirements and laws that apply to the member countries.
"We take consumers seriously and guarantee melons of the best
quality for more than four months of the year. We are able to do so because we have chosen a crop that is 100% Italian, from seed to shelf, including the growing process. Thanks to our three main cultivation areas in Italy, Sicily, Campania and Lazio, we can guarantee consistent cultivation and quality, which is exactly what the consumer wants. On the other hand, the producer also receives a guarantee from the continuity of the work he carries out with his commercial partners. This creates a virtuous circle, which adds value to quality and can ensure an exclusive partnership,” said Alfredo Amoroso (pictured above on the right).
What are the characteristics that ensure the high quality?
"We supply a Cantaloupe of the variety Dafne F1, a unique crop that can be found on the markets from April to July. We guarantee the consumer a melon that has a minimum brix value of 14, but with peaks of 18, a crunchy and intense aroma and taste with an excellent shelf life after harvesting (LSL). The melons can be traced thanks to a management system with a QR code,” replied Andrea Restuccia, agronomist and operational manager of the Best Melon project.

"If Daphne innovation means virtuosity, then we can certainly accept this definition," Restuccia clarified. "Taste, healthiness and durability are the key elements, but we mustn't forget that the most important aspect is sustainability, as well as full compliance with phytosanitary protocols, which allows us to guarantee the above-mentioned elements. The real driving force behind this project is that everything is 100% Italian,” clarified Restuccia.

The project envisages the support of the dedicated blog Best Melon www.bestmelon.net which acts as a virtual container in which users can find additional information, provided by the farms participating in the project, on the product consumed. It will also be possible to share emotions and feelings about the consumption of the product, thereby establishing a transparent communication process between production and consumption.
