Recently, hailstones suddenly fell in some areas of Shaanxi, and most apple-producing areas were affected. Shaanxi is in the period of removing bags from late-ripening Fuji. This hail has a greater impact on Shaanxi producing areas, among which the Luochuan area is more severely affected. At present, the large area of late-ripening Fuji in the Shaanxi production area is being taken out of the bag.
From September 16th to the 19th, the rain was continuous. Fruit growers in the Shaanxi producing area began to remove apples from bags on a large scale, but hail fell suddenly in the producing area on the afternoon of the 20th, and the farmers were caught off guard. The hail was about the size of a grape, and the fruit surface was severely damaged. Some orchards with anti-hail nets had little impact, and the broken apples could only enter the juice factory.
There are many areas affected by the hail, and it is expected that the proportion of commercial fruits in Shaanxi producing areas will be significantly reduced compared with last year. The apple industry has been in a downturn this year. The late-ripening Fuji of the cold storage in Shaanxi last year was basically sold out until early September. The selling price of early-ripening Gala apples was not as good as that of the same period last year, and the hailstorm was a blow to some fruit farmers and caused serious losses.
Hail has a greater impact on apple planting. It will reduce the production of apples that year and will also have an adverse effect on the output of the next 3 to 5 years. In fact, what is more serious is that fruit farmers’ mentality of apple planting will be affected. This year, fruit growers are also more disappointed in the apple industry. This sudden hail during the debagging period is expected to severely impact the enthusiasm of fruit farmers in planting apples, causing negative emotions.
It is expected that there will be continuous rainfall in Shaanxi from September 23 to 28, which will further deteriorate the ventilation and light transmission conditions of the orchard and induce diseases. Fruit farmers also need to take appropriate measures to prevent large-scale disasters. In summary, the hail disaster has a greater impact on the apple-producing areas in Shaanxi, and the fruit is seriously affected. It is expected that the proportion of late-ripening Fuji commercial fruits in the new season in Shaanxi will be significantly reduced this year.
