Ludan Fresh Supplies introduces 100% Italian product to its range

The organic spring onion from the Italian Sele Plain reaches Europe

"For the winter season, Ludan Fresh Supplies, in addition to its offer of fresh herbs, will expand its range with organic spring onion, 100% Italian, as it is grown entirely in the Piana del Sele (in the province of Salerno - Campania). The destination of this crop is the foreign market, especially Europe," said Luigi D'Aniello, commercial director of the Italian company Ludan Fresh Supplies, based in Eboli (Salerno).

"We have planted about 3 million white onion plants of a hybrid variety, which is very popular abroad. Thanks to staggered planting, we will be able to start the season in October and finish it next year in May."

Ludan Fresh Supplies is a young and dynamic company, founded in April 2020, specializing in premium herbs for fresh consumption. The varieties in the range that are available all year round are basil, rosemary, sage, mint, thyme and parsley.

"Last spring, we processed spring onions for the first time, and after a cultivation and market test, we offered this vegetable for the winter season as well. We think this is a good investment because of the commercial advantages. To diversify our offer and increase the presence of Italian spring onions on a European scale, we offer the organic product grown in the Sele plain," said D'Aniello.

"The European market for spring onions is very competitive and suffers in the winter from the massive presence of Egyptian and Moroccan crops. Italian spring onions are a high-quality crop and thanks to road transport we can reach any destination in Central Europe in two days. In this way, we guarantee a much fresher crop than what arrives in Europe in containers from Egypt or Morocco. Moreover, the Italian crop complies with EU phytosanitary regulations. The Italian spring onion is only less competitive in economic terms, as it is more expensive than the onion that is brought in bulk (without any processing) from Egypt.

Ludan Fresh Supplies makes the difference with its spring onions by focusing on quality. To keep the quality standard high, volumes are planned according to the farm's capacity. Moreover, the crop is organically certified and processed by specialized staff.

"The spring onion, after being sorted, washed, partially defoliated and tied in 125-gram bunches, will be destined for foreign processors and the fresh market. It is also available in cardboard trays and flowpacked with biodegradable film, with 125 grams of product, but also loose in boxes. We are open to all requests, depending on the schedule."
