In the Panchari-Landhar and Latti-Dudu-Chenani areas of Udhampur district, over 80 dry and fresh fruit crops have been damaged due to heavy rain and snowfall. The weather inflicted heavy losses on orchardists who are now hoping for financial support and access to cold stores.
Dry fruit and fresh fruit is a source of livelihood for thousands of families in Jammu and Kashmir, but growers in this sector are facing losses due to this year’s low yield, combined with a sharp slump in prices owing to the pandemic.
Growers demand the government to build cold storage facilities and to provide snow protector nets. Furthermore, the farmers have no facilities to sell their production, forcing them to sell their product locally with very minimal rates.
