Fruit shipper discusses sustainability initiatives

The Organic Produce Summit is just around the corner and Rainier Fruit Company is looking ahead with anticipation.

“Rainier was founded on the idea that nature knows how to take care of herself without much intervention,” said Blake Belknap, vice-president of sales at Rainier Fruit Company. “Organic farming leans on this idea that, as farmers, we work with nature. Creating a mutually beneficial relationship with the powerful farmers that she provides: pollinators, natural decomposition and sunshine just to name a few.”

Rainier has ranches straddling the central Washington spine from Oregon to the Canadian border.

Rainier has been fixated on growing quality fruit, especially in organics, and that starts with its array of sustainability initiatives. “We have more than 150 acres of Bee Better certified pollinator habitat and earlier this year, we announced our EFI certification,” said Belknap.

Rainier has ranches straddling the central Washington spine from Oregon to the Canadian border. This strategy enables them to find the ideal growing region to grow organics year-round. “We live in a beautiful and unique corner of the world that’s ideal for growing our organic fruit. Rainier has been farming here for more than six generations. Because of this depth of knowledge and our climate, we have been able to take our organics year-round for the fourth year in a row, including Honeycrisp,” said Belknap. “We are excited to hit the show floor and share with retailers and fellow organic enthusiasts. See you at OPS at booth 118!”
