Sam Mauiith - The Avolution

“It is always competitive but now whoever gets there first with quality fruit wins the battle”

The Australian avocado season is well underway with big volumes from all of the growing regions, creating a very competitive market both domestically and in the export markets.

Grower-owned marketing company The Avolution sources avocados from all of the Australian growing regions, Sam Mauiith, National Sales and Category Manager at the company said that quality is very good this season and there has been minimum disturbance from the weather.

“Our volumes are up by around 25% this season. This is due to a combination of an on-year and new plantings coming into full production.  We have always exported to Asia and the Middle East and this year with the ongoing pricing there is more competition in these markets.

“It is very challenging at the moment with the lower prices, but mainly due to the logistical situation. The unavailability of suitable containers, rising prices and unnecessary delays at ports all add to the cost and affect the quality of the fruit for the end consumer.

“It is always competitive but now whoever gets there first with quality fruit wins the battle.”
