"We hope that overseas suppliers will focus on the huge market potential of China's southwest"

The southwest of China has rapidly developed recently and the availability of high-end domestic and imported fruit in west China is growing more varied every year. Guizhou Shou Yang Fruit is one of the largest fruit companies in China's southwest. Mr. Yi Xianghui, a spokesperson for the company, recently talked about current conditions and future developments in the fruit market in China's southwest.

Guizhou Shou Yang Fruit has operated according to the principle of 'direct purchase from production areas' since the company was founded. The company has signed purchase agreements with large-scale suppliers in fruit production areas of Thailand, Chile, Vietnam, Australia, New Zealand, and Peru.

When asked about the advantages of direct purchases from production areas, Mr. Yi replied; "Personal connections with suppliers allow for greater control over product quality and the freshness of our products. In addition, cutting out the middlemen can help us reduce the cost price of our fruit, which gives us a price advantage in the market. I think that direct purchasing from production areas will become the main trend in the fruit industry. Of course, not all companies have the capacity to maintain this approach. This method requires years of learning specialized knowledge, setting up channels, and gathering experience. We spend a lot of time and money to slowly build the channels between us and a variety of production areas across the globe."

The Shou Yang Fruit Group has constructed 17 wholesale centers and has retail points throughout the country. When asked about the market with the most potential, Mr. Yi replied: "The retail market in China's southwest is rapidly expanding. There is national support for the development of west China. And Guizhou is a focus point for the economic development of the region. The economic level of residents in this region rises every year. Many young people from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen return to this region and bring with them economic resources and consumer concepts. The products that are popular in first-tier cities are brought to west China by these young returnees," said Mr. Yi. "That is why the variety of high-quality domestic and imported fruit in this region grows richer every year."

Shou Yang Fruit Group sells import fruit and high-quality domestic fruit. "In the last few years the market demand for high-quality fruit has grown stronger in China's southwest. This is not just about the quality of the fruit, but is visible also in the way the fruit is packaged. Premium fruit in exquisite packaging sells well," said Mr. Yi.

"However, there are some issues with the copyright protection of well-known brands. This is particularly problematic for products that are bought directly from large-scale plantations. Some corrupt traders copy the packaging, but supply inferior fruit, and so deceive consumers into thinking they bought high-quality brand fruit. These knockoff products can not be compared to the real thing in terms of packaging or product quality."

Shou Yang Fruit actively participates in the "one belt, one road" initiative. The company buys characteristic Southeast Asian fruits such as durian, longan, mangosteen, pomelo, green coconut, and dragon fruit for import in the Chinese market.

Mr. Yi also shared his view on high-quality domestic fruit. "The domestic fruit market rapidly developed in the last few years. Consumers who only buy high-quality fruit gradually turn their attention from import fruits to premium domestic fruit brands," explained Mr. Yi.

"Every fruit product comes to a stage where sales decline. We just have to keep moving and find fresh, new products. Take the 8424 watermelon for example, this product variety is well known for high product quality and high sugar content, but the melon rind is extremely brittle and cracks at the slightest bump. Farmers have continued to improve this variety and now the melon rind is much sturdier and the flavor is better as well. Transporting these melons is much more convenient now. The improved 8424 watermelon provides a better consumer experience. The product quality of domestic fruit really has improved a lot in the last few years."

Guizhou Shou Yang Fruit Group was established in 2013. This company in specialized in the purchase, wholesale, and retail of fruit. The group has branch offices in Guangzhou, Thailand, and Vietnam. Shou Yang Fruit Group also established an international trade department. The company sells a variety of high-quality fruit from domestic and overseas suppliers.

The Shou Yang Fruit Group will participate in the Shanghai International Fruit Expo between the 12th and 14th of August. The company can be found at booth G3-3. "We are a young company, based in west China, but facing the world. We hope to use this opportunity in Shanghai to make domestic clients understand that huge market potential is not limited to first-tier cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, but that the market in west China is quickly expanding as well. We warmly welcome clients from China and abroad to explore the potential of west China with us."
