Maersk reports on British Columbia Wildfire impact on service

Today’s update on the Port of Vancouver operations and the wildfires in the Lytton, BC area of Western Canada, impacting the main rail access route into the port of Vancouver.

Current Situation at Vancouver Terminal
Yard utilization is 76% of capacity- 7 days of waiting time for vessel berthing.

MV Santa Ines finished operations on July 11th, followed by MV Balthasar Schulte expected to finish operations today July 13th and MV Maersk Lins is expected to start operations at Vancouver Centerm terminal on July 15th.

CP Railway:
CP trains continue to operate, and the carrier is working on reducing the backlog and safely increasing capacity.

Embargo on traffic has been lifted, import and export from Western Canada is moving.

CN Railway:
CN Engineers continue working on the bridge repair, expecting the track to be ready shortly.

Stakeholders are working on easing the backlog; however, we are looking into minimum of one week to start seeing improvement.

  • Exports: As of today, CN is resuming acceptance of Dry Export loads destined to Delta Port, Vanterm, Centerm and Fraser Surrey from Brampton / Malport / Taschereau and Chicago. The rest of the origin terminals are under review.
  • Imports: They continue to work closely with all terminals in Vancouver to provide updates on inbound rail car footage and to coordinate the daily outbound loading.
  • Reefers: The priority is to first depart all export reefer traffic that is currently in gated at CN origin ramps.
