It is now possible to find Pêchevignes® and Nectavignes® on French supermarket shelves. The particularity of these peaches and nectarines from the Monts du Lyonnais is the red color of their flesh, which shows their high antioxidant content. According to a study conducted by CTIFL and published in the “Journal of Food Composition and Analysis 86” in 2020, their antioxidant content is higher than in regular peaches and nectarines with yellow or white flesh.
Antioxidants should be consumed daily to fight against cellular aging and reduce oxidative stress in the body.
A presence maintained in spite of the weather
Despite the weather hazards that have impacted this year’s stone fruit production, Pêchevignes® and Nectavignes® are present on French supermarket shelves this year.
But peach and nectarine producers were not entirely spared by the frost. The harvest, which should exceed 2,000 tons this year, will barely reach 1,000 tons. The season has just started and will last until mid-September.
Hopefully, the upcoming years will be milder and allow the Sanguines® to fully express their potential, with over 3,000 tons expected in 2 years.
Meeting consumer needs
In order to make consumers discover the Sanguines® and to promote the French fruit production during this peculiar year, events and tastings will be organized in some Carrefour stores of southeastern France, as well as on the wholesale market of Corbas where wholesaler Rhône Fruits will decorate its booth with Sanguines® fruit.
It is now also possible to find Sanguines® on Linkedin, along with technical information on the orchards and news about the approach. The Sanguines® are also present on Facebook and Instagram, with information for consumers, recipe ideas and online games with many prizes to win.
