France: New NeoFarm technological farm

For the National Agricultural Days in France on June 18, 19, and 20, 2021, the NeoFarm start-up inaugurated its technological farm of 10,000 m² in Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche (Yvelines).

The goal of NeoFarm is to reduce the workload of producers by designing turnkey technological farms. This greenhouse in Île-de-France, therefore, has robots that sow, weed, and harvest. “Today, the producers are quite old. In the next 5 years, half of them will retire and they will not necessarily be replaced, so we need to make the profession very appealing,” explains Alexia Rey, co-founder of the start-up.

A robot was therefore designed to pick carrots on its own. “Two belts frame the tops. This helps the roots go up to waist level. No need to bend and be on all fours,” explains Mikael Arguedas, a robotics engineer at NeoFarm.

At 42 years old, Enguerrand de Saint-Pry has been producing in conventional agriculture for nearly 10 years. He feels that as he gets “older, there is a need to progress intellectually. And physically, we want to change and maybe work at a slower pace.”
